COVID-19 Studio Re-opening | Safety Procedures | Newborn Photograpy | West Yorkshire

The safety of your baby has always been, and always will be, my number one priority.


I have missed my tiny clients and their families so much since March, and can't wait to welcome you back to my studio once again!


Of course, things will be a little different, but I will still be able to create some really beautiful images of your baby for you to treasure forever.



I will continue to constantly monitor the situation, both nationally and in the local area. If guidance changes and/or local or national lockdown is reintroduced, I will update these precautions and close the studio again if necessary. Any sessions that are affected by this will be postponed until it is safe to reopen.


There are quite a few things on the list of precautions that I have always done, and I have added to these to ensure minimal risk during your shoot. The list is very comprehensive, so if you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask.


The following COVID-19 safety procedures will be in place until further notice:


Studio Cleanliness:

  • Only one session will take place per day, with at least 48 hours between sessions.

  • All towels, blankets and soft props will be washed after every session. Anything that can’t be washed (for example headbands or furs) will be quarantined for 72 hours.

  • The sofa will be covered with a throw that will be washed after every session.

  • All hard surfaces, including prop bowls, will be cleaned with surface disinfecting & cleaning wipes (laboratory certified to kill viruses & bacteria) before and after every shoot.

  • The studio floor will be cleaned with disinfectant after every shoot.

  • All surfaces will be kept as clutter-free as possible.

  • The studio floor will be marked with tape at 1m intervals to aid with social distancing.

  • Studio samples will not be available to handle during the session. However, I am able to show them to you at a distance.

  • The downstairs bathroom will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before and after each shoot. It will be for the sole use of Clients on the day of the shoot – myself and my family will make use of the upstairs bathroom instead. If you need to use the bathroom please wipe down all touched surfaces with anti-bacterial wipes provided after you have washed your hands, and dispose of the wipe in the bin in the bathroom.

  • My camera will be cleaned and sanitised before each session.

Symptoms:

  • Sessions will not be scheduled until 10 days after you leave hospital.

  • On the morning of the shoot, The Client will be required to complete a self-declaration form relating to any symptoms of COVID-19. These symptoms include a high temperature (NHS.uk describes this as 38° or above), a new, continuous cough, and/or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

  • Upon arrival at the studio, I will check everyone’s temperature with a non-contact forehead infrared digital thermometer, including myself. If anyone has a high temperature, then the session will be postponed for at least 14 days.

  • If anyone in your household experiences COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, or tests positive for COVID-19, the session will need to be postponed for at least 14 days.

  • If I, or anyone in my household tests positive to, or experiences any symptoms of COVID-19, we will self-isolate as per the government guidelines and all sessions will be postponed and rescheduled.

  • Contact tracing - if, for up to 14 days after your session any of your household experiences symptoms of COVID-19, please inform me. Likewise, if anyone in my household experiences them within 14 days of your shoot, I will inform you.

Arrival at the studio:

  • Please wash your hands immediately before leaving your house.

  • Upon arrival at the studio, please leave your coats and any unnecessary items in your car.

  • Please use the 70% alcohol hand sanitiser provided at the front door of the property before knocking. I will open the door to let you in and ask that you follow me down the hallway to the studio, taking care not to touch any walls, doors, or surfaces unnecessarily.

  • I will walk past the studio entrance, and direct you in. I will then close the front door, and then join you in the studio. Please wait behind the marker on the floor so I can pass you and get to the photography end of the studio. Once I am past you, you can settle in.



During the shoot:

  • I will wear PPE throughout the session. This will include a face shield, a 3-layer face covering and an apron.

  • Masks will be provided for parents to wear while they are not being photographed, and I do ask that you wear one. You are welcome to bring your own face covering if you prefer.

  • 70% alcohol hand sanitiser will be available throughout the shoot with separate dispensers for the Photographer and the Clients. I will use it regularly throughout.

  • Handwashing facilities for Clients will be available at all times in the downstairs bathroom. The photographer will use the handwashing facilities in the kitchen or upstairs.

  • Parents are asked to remain at the end of the studio where the sofa is, and not to approach the photography area unnecessarily when they are not being photographed themselves.

  • Sibling and/or family shots will be taken at the beginning and/or end of the session. Please let me know in advance if you would like sibling/family shots.

  • In the time in between when the baby is being photographed alone, arrangements should be made to look after any sibling(s) outside of the studio. This could be one parent taking them home or to the park for example, and returning at the end of the session.

  • I am unable to offer refreshments at this time. Do please bring your own snacks and drinks to keep yourself comfortable throughout the session, and take any rubbish home to dispose of.

  • I am unable to offer cotton wool, baby wipes, nappies or breast pads at the moment. Please ensure you have everything you need for your baby with you.

  • Parents must change their baby and soiled nappies must be bagged and taken home with you to dispose of.


  • Shoot times will be reduced to minimise risk of infection:

  • All set-ups will be pre-selected by you during your consultation or by email.

  • I will keep your baby wrapped throughout the session – this will greatly minimise the time I need to have close contact with them.

  • Complex poses requiring constant support of the baby will not be undertaken at this time.


  • Once the session has begun the baby will not be passed back to the parents unless they are distressed or hungry.

  • Paperwork ordinarily filled in at the session (Acceptance of Ts & Cs, GDPR & Consent Forms) will be sent by post in advance of your shoot. Please place them in the envelope provided and return them on the day of the shoot.
